Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has signed commercial agreements with several major news publishers, including USA Today, People, CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Washington Examiner, and Le Monde, the company announced on Friday.
These partnerships will allow Meta to provide “real-time” news and updates through its AI chatbot. The system will link directly to articles and websites from these publishers, giving users access to a broader range of news sources.
Expanding AI Services Amid Growing Competition
Meta’s move comes as competition in the AI space intensifies. Other tech companies are also investing heavily in artificial intelligence and securing content licensing deals to improve their services.
“When you ask Meta AI news-related questions, you will now receive information and links that draw from more diverse content sources to help you discover timely and relevant content tailored to your interests,” Meta said.
Challenges for Meta in the AI Race
The company has faced setbacks with its Llama 4 AI model, which received a lukewarm response. Despite this, Meta has committed billions to AI development. Reports suggest the company is also considering budget cuts in its metaverse division as it refocuses on AI services.
Future Plans and Partnerships
Meta said it plans to add more partnerships and explore new AI features. Specific terms of the agreements have not been publicly disclosed, according to People Inc. and USA Today.
