Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has publicly expressed frustration with the club, claiming he was “thrown under the bus” after being benched in Saturday’s 3-3 Premier League draw against Leeds United.
The 33-year-old Egyptian suggested his future at Anfield could be uncertain following the incident.
Salah, who has been a key figure at Liverpool for eight years, accused the club and coach Arne Slot of scapegoating him for a slow start to the season.
Speaking to reporters after the match, he said: “I’m very, very disappointed. I have done so much for this club, especially last season.
It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus. Someone wants me to take all the blame. The club promised a lot in the summer, but nothing has happened so far.”
Salah’s Liverpool Legacy and Current Struggles
Since joining Liverpool, Salah has scored 250 goals and helped the team win two Premier League titles. He signed a two-year contract extension in April, yet he has seen limited action this season, starting only the last three matches on the bench and playing just 45 minutes.
The striker will join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations starting December 15. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Inter Milan in the Champions League and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, Salah said he plans to enjoy the games regardless of whether he plays.
“I called my mum and dad yesterday, I told them to come to the Brighton game. It doesn’t matter if I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. We’ll see what happens, but I just want to enjoy the game,” he said.
Coach Arne Slot Responds
After the 3-3 draw with Leeds, Slot explained his decision to leave Salah on the bench. “We needed different players for this match,” the coach said, without providing further details.
Salah’s comments and uncertain playing time have raised questions about his future at Liverpool, with fans and analysts closely watching the next few fixtures for signs of whether the Egyptian forward will remain at Anfield.
