Kenneth fills a post left vacant for almost a year following the death of the previous minister in a helicopter crash.
The appointment on Friday, August 7, comes as Ghana faces mounting regional security pressures, including instability in the Sahel, cross-border crime, and maritime security threats in the Gulf of Guinea.
Who is Kenneth Gilbert Adjei?
Adjei, 47, previously served as Ghana’s housing minister and is returning to the defence sector after an earlier stint as deputy defence minister between 2015 and 2017, under Mahama’s first administration.
His predecessor, Edward Omane Boamah, died in a military helicopter crash amongst 7 others in August 2025,
Part of a wider cabinet reshuffle
Adjei’s appointment was announced alongside a broader cabinet reshuffle, which also included new nominations for the environment, science and technology, and local government portfolios.
